DESCRIPTION

THERMO-SHIELD is a Portland cement based, polymer-modified mortar, supplied as a two-component kit.  The kit includes a dry component A, liquid component B, reinforcing tape, and instructions.

USES

THERMO-SHIELD provides protection for rigid polystyrene insulation against damage by weather, ultraviolet rays, and normal physical wear.

PACKAGING

Kit is packaged in a 20 L (5.3 gal.) pail containing a 20 kg (44.3 lb) bag of dry Component A and a 1.75 L (0.46 gal.) bottle of liquid Component B.

COVERAGE

Yield is 9.4 L (0.33 ft.3)

Covers approximately 4.7 m2 @ 2 mm (49.8 ft.2 @ 80 mils) thickness per kit.

SHELF LIFE

When stored on pallets in a dry area, shelf life is 12 months

APPLICATION
Surface Preparation … Fasten the insulation as required. Tape the joints, corners, and fastener heads with the glass tape. Scrape the surface of the insulation with a steel brush.

Mixing … Remove the bag with the dry Component A from the pail. Pour all the liquid Component B into the empty pail. Fill the empty container with water. Pour about 2/3 of the water into the pail.  Add the dry Component A into the liquid, while mixing thoroughly using a heavy duty drill (400 – 600 RPM) with a mixer.

Adjust the water to obtain trowelable consistency.

Application Method … Pre-coat all the taped areas using a wide putty knife.

After covering all the taped areas, adjust the coating to a brushable consistency by adding the remaining water and mix thoroughly. A small additional amount of water may have to be used, especially under higher ambient temperatures. Test the mixture by brushing on a small area before beginning the overall application. If the coating stiffens during the application, remix, while adding a small amount of water.

Apply THERMO-SHIELD with a stiff brush using a semi-circular motion. Apply approximately 3 mm (1/8″) thick coating and create the texture immediately. Cover only about a 1 m (3′) section at one time. Clean the brush periodically to avoid a buildup of the coating.

The product can be also applied by trowel, providing less mixing water is used to obtain a trowelling consistency of the material.

Avoid possible colour shade differences by mixing enough coating to cover an entire wall section.

Curing … Protect against rapid surface evaporation due to heat and wind.  Allow to air cure for 48 hours before painting.

Clean Up …  All tools must be cleaned with water immediately after use.  Cured material can only be removed mechanically.

LIMITATIONS/PRECAUTIONS

Do not apply when the temperature is expected to be below 4° C within 24 hours or when rain is imminent. Follow hot weather concreting precautions when applying at temperatures exceeding 25 C or under sunny and windy conditions.  Protect Component B material from freezing.
