Industrial Concrete – Restoration & Protection

Gemite protective coatings systems are durable and provide long-term protection from effects of severe chemical environments, impact, abrasion, corrosion, freeze-thaw and thermal shock.

Our Technical Service assures that suitable products and systems are used to deliver comprehensive restoration and protection solutions, from surface preparation, selection of correct product and application methodology, to provide long-term useful life of the structure, and to safeguard your investment, employees and environment.

Surface Preparation

Clean all concrete surfaces using shotblasting, sandblasting or scarifying to obtain a clean surface with a minimum CSP #3 profile per ICRI (International Concrete Repair Institute), and to remove all chemicals, oil, grease, curing compounds, or other contaminants.

Always consult suitable method of surface preparation for specific project with Gemite’s Technical Service.

Fibre-Prime – Corrosion Protection for Reinforcing steel (rebar)

Clean reinforcing steel using mechanical abrasion – “white metal” surface is NOT required.

Polymer modified cementitious rustproofing, with migrating corrosion protection technology, is applied in 2 coats over exposed rebar surface to protect partially “buried” steel, to provide protection from future rusting.

Gem-Plast TC – Levelling & Reprofiling < 12 mm (1/2”)

Repair mortar used for thin section surface reprofiling of reinforced concrete.  Spray applied and troweled, or hand applied.  Floor slabs may require a higher thickness

Fibre-Patch OV – Levelling & Reprofiling > 12 mm (1/2”)

Hand applied, fast setting fiber-reinforced, micro-silica enhanced structural waterproofing mortar for application on horizontal, vertical and overhead surfaces.

Cem-Kote Barrier Cote 100 – 3-6 mm (1/8”-1/4”)

Super durable, abrasion & impact resistant, polymerized cementitious heavy-duty traffic coating suitable for restoration and protection of airport traffic surfaces.  It is spray or brush applied in 2-coats and can be opened to traffic after 48-hours of air-drying.

Gem-Crete HF ST – 6-12 mm (1/4”-1/2”)

Thicker traffic bearing overlay that has an exceptional fracture toughness and crack resistance, combined with superior abrasion resistance.  Highly flowable – easily applied by screeding – tining finish provides superior traction. Under normal conditions it can be open to traffic after 48 hours of air-drying.

Gem-Crete HDO –12-60 mm (1/2”-2”)

Heavy-Duty, highly fiber-reinforced traffic bearing bonded overlay is super tough and delivers excellent impact and abrasion resistance – over 25-years successful track record under high-traffic loads on highway bridge decks.

Cem-Kote Barrier Coat 100 must be used as bonding agent.

Advantages of Thin Traffic Bearing Bonded Toppings

  • Thin Application – less costly than partial slab replacement
  • Systems available for any Thicknesses
  • Easy & Fast Application – with Standard equipment & tools
  • High Abrasion & Impact resistance
  • UV stability
  • Easy maintenance

Chemical Protection

Gem-Cote EP 100

High-performance, highly chemically resistant 100% epoxy coating resistant to most chemical environments.  Can be applied as Coating, Broadcast System for Non-Slip surfaces, or as a Mortar Topping (thin overlay).

Gem-Cote EP 100 is VOC Compliant, provides superior Toughness, Fast Set & Strength Development and can be applied over fresh concrete after 3-4 days curing.

Cem-Kote Barrier Coat 100 vapor retarder must be used as a base coat, in case of high moisture levels, to allow application of the epoxy.

Geopolymer Materials

Next generation of geopolymers that was developed by Gemite contain at least 70% raw materials that are reactive.  Corro-Chem materials can be sprayed, troweled, poured and cast – properties can be adjusted as needed.

Corro-Chem provides barrier protection for reinforcing bars = eliminates use of active passivating coatings.

Added benefit of Corro-Chem is the significant reduction of carbon footprint, since production, use and chemical reaction create only a fraction of the CO2 emissions that conventional Portland cement materials produce.

Geopolymers cure chemically, instead of hydration, and have similar workability and feel as cement, but with an extended Service Life.  Geopolymer chemical structure is comparable to a natural stone = Corrosion Resistant and Durable.

Corro-Chem 100 Kit – Acid Resistant Mortar / Concrete

Horizontal or Vertical formulations can be applied at min. 10 mm (3/8”) thickness and  extend with aggregates for thicker layer. Vapor permeable (breathable) and completely Nonflammable & Nontoxic.

Resists high concentrations of Nitric & Sulfuric acid – even at elevated temperatures

Eliminates need for mechanical anchoring required by potassium silicate systems, and bonds to Chemically contaminated, and even wet surfaces.

Corro-Chem 100 is not attacked by organic solvents and resists high concentrations of most inorganic and organic acids, including sulfuric, hydrochloric, acetic, phosphoric & nitric acids.

Corro-Chem 200 Kit – Acid & Caustic Resistant Mortar / Concrete

Horizontal or Vertical formulations can be applied at min. 10 mm (3/8”) thickness and  extend with 9 mm (3/8”) pea gravel or 6 mm (¼”) crushed granite stone for thicker layer, or concrete.

Resists both – Caustic and Acid environments.

Corro-Chem 200 is resistant to Inorganic and Organic acids and it is not attacked by organic solvents and provides an excellent protection to concrete against acidic and caustic spills.  Used in secondary containments and to protect or repair damaged concrete surfaces.

Corro-Chem 500 Premix – 1 component

Premix simplifies mixing & application, significantly reduces freight costs – NO dangerous goods and year around shipping (without heat).

Safe to Use – NO alkali activating liquid solution

Bonds tenaciously, even to contaminated or wet concrete, and steel surfaces.

Easy and environmentally safe material.

Advantages of Geopolymers
