Objective: waterproofing of new concrete pumping station for City of Saint John. The concrete surface was cleaned with 5,000 psi water, then two coats of Cem-Kote Flex CR, reinforced with Reinforcing Fabric HD throughout, were applied according to the specification for tanks in a water treatment facility. The interior of the pumping station tank is shown in Figures1 and 2. Figure 3 shows the first coat of Cem-Kote Flex CR with embedded Reinforcing Fabric HD. Figure 4 shows the typical brush finish of Cem-Kote Flex CR. (Note: the surface can be made smooth when specified). Fibre-Patch OV was used to form corner coves then coated with Cem-Kote Flex CR and Reinforcing Fabric HD. A perfect corner cove detail is shown in Figure 5. The project started in 2013 and was finished the same year. (Is this necessary?)
Cem-Kote Flex CR has many advantages over polymer based coating systems as well as providing gas proofing in applications where this is necessary – e.g. anaerobic digesters, storage of processed sludge and others. Cem-Kote Flex CR coating, or the complete system, is considerably less expensive and easier to apply than any polymer systems such as epoxies, polyurethanes or polyurea. Cem-Kote Flex CR and polymer coatings are compared in the Table below.
