Project: Bridge, Sable Beach National Park, PEI, Canada
Designer: Public Works Canada
Clent: Parks Canada
Contractor: J.G. Hartling, Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, Canada
Gemite product: Fibre-Patch OV, Cem-Kote ST
Objective: Protection and waterproofing of a bridge structure.
The bridge structure exhibited severe spalling due to corrosion of the reinforcing steel. The bridge structure was repaired using Fibre-Patch OV and Cem-Kote ST. The Cem-Kote ST coating provided waterproofing and additional protection to the structure as the bridge is exposed to salt water and severe freeze thaw conditions on the Saint Lawrence River. The project was carried out in 1990. An inspection in 1996, after 5 winters of service, showed no peeling, deterioration or freeze/thaw damage to the Cem-Kote ST or cracking and delamination of the Fibre-Patch OV. The inspection in June 2005, after 15 years of service, showed no delamination or deterioration of Cem-Kote ST or cracking and delamination of Fibre- Patch OV.
